Rally
Points next season - it's official!
The
Rally Points scoring system will officially be played in all
Nottinghamshire league badminton matches from the start of the new
season (2010/2011). The scoring system, which has divided
opinion
since its introduction in 2006, was approved at the annual general
meeting of the Nottinghamshire Badminton Association on 14th June,
2010. In truth this was little more than a ratification of the decision
which had already been made by Badminton England, governing body of the
sport in this country, back in May following an earlier announcement
from the World Badminton Federation that no alternative scoring systems
would be permitted in competitive play.
This was how the decision was notified to clubs at the Notts BA AGM:
'At the WBF (World
Badminton Federation) AGM in May, a resolution was passed to change the
rules of badminton. The rule 3f was removed; this was the rule that
allowed leagues to play to the old alternate 15 scoring system. All WBF
affiliated members will now play to the rally points 21 system.
This means that BE will
now adopt the 21 points for all affiliated clubs.
As we are affiliated to
BE and our constitution states that we will play in accordance to the
BE rules, as from September we will be playing the rally points system
in the Notts league. This means that item 8 on the agenda is no longer
applicable'.

This
means that East Leake Badminton Club will play all matches using the
Rally Points from the start of the new season. The new ruling does not
necessarily have to be applied by clubs in recreational play, leaving
them free to choose to continue playing the traditional scoring system
to 15 on club nights if preferred. However, the Club
Committtee
have decided to adopt Rally Points scoring up until 9/9.15 pm
on
club nights and for all junior badminton, to enable people to prepare
for the new season.
